The City Council approved in full the name of one of the busiest places in the municipality as 'Plaza de las esterero', "to give tribute to all of Blanca who for years has been devoted to this craft work" as said first mayor, Rafael Carrasco Laorden
At the regular meeting of the full council of White, which took place last night unanimously approved naming the plaza located between Calle Doctor Marañón, Federico García Lorca and Ortega y Gasset and the esterero square.
This name refers to the great tradition of the municipality in the manufacture of esparto was for many years, along with agriculture, motor of the town's economy.
"The industry esparto served for many years as a livelihood and way of life of many citizens of Blanca, so from this Consistory we wanted to pay homage to this group which has given so much for this town," said Rafael Carrasco Laorden Mayor White.
The City Council wanted it to be one of the busiest squares in the town bearing that name to refer to women who did esparto mats.
"We chose this name as a tribute to all the women who labored so esparto mats, which are now recognized as an artisan tradition of great economic value" recognized Laorden.
At present there are few esparto mills in Spain, while in the town of Segura valley still has the Arteblanc company that is dedicated to making all kinds of products derived from esparto.
