The Director General of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro, accompanied by Mayor White, Rafael Laorden, today visited the rehabilitation work that the Ministry of Public Works and Planning, together with the council of this town, have been completed in the environment del Castillo, a performance that contributes to the recovery and revitalization of the historic heritage of the municipality.
"This action has led to improved integration of the Castle District with its environment, making a connecting element between the municipality's urban core and the most representative symbol of this historic town, a fortress of the XII century constituted an important place tourist and cultural interest, "said the CEO.
Navarro said that "these rehabilitation works are included in the program for the refurbishment of public spaces, with which the Community recovers the historical and cultural heritage of the towns in the Murcia region, integrating it into the social structure of populations through improvement of those areas that enhance the cohesion and the values of the environment. "
The work has involved the adaptation and redevelopment of the neighborhood by improving sidewalks, paved plazas, street furniture installation and construction of new stairs of great importance because of existing slopes in this area.
The action has had a total cost of 517,384 euros, of which the Ministry has funded 80 percent, 413,907 euros, while the White City Council has provided 20 per cent.
The rehabilitation of the Castle District environment has allowed uniting a new space in which the Council has given special prominence to culture with the construction of a center for artists and a group of houses for accommodation.
The performance includes a central plaza that connects artists with housing.
