The Gang of Souls of White performs its traditional'Despedía' (07/01/2015)

As every January 6, the crew of the Brotherhood of Blessed Souls of White held its traditional "Despedía of Souls," one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the town which is held every year on Epiphany.

The Despedía begins with the singing in the Chapel of "La Milagrosa" and then the next streets are traveled to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Once there, the crew sits at the foot of the altar and starts Despedía sung in two parts.

The first consists of the verses of the prayers that make the souls in Purgatory to be rescued and the second in which thanks to the saints are asked to finish the suffering of these souls.

Once the act the phrase "Health for next year" is recited.

It is not known when it started exactly held this tradition in White Township, but is rooted in the doctrine of Purgatory, where the souls of the righteous who die stain of sin are purified expiating their sins before being admitted to the Heaven.

Las Animas Blessed are the souls of the dead who are in Purgatory waiting redeem their sins to meet God.

Las Animas crews emerged with the aim of helping souls out of purgatory, and asked for them using the "animeras couplets" four octosyllabic couplets, assonance or rhyme in the second quarter, leaving free the first and third.

In White, a gang, led by the banner with the picture of the Virgin of Carmen, a lawyer in Purgatory, through the streets of the town, over the next dates for Christmas, singing and playing the "animeras songs".

The alms that are collected are used to support for the seminar, for Masses for the dead and for the poor.
