Lorca highlighted "the commitment and good work done by the municipality of Blanca in cultural matters, particularly in the literary field thanks to its 'White Villa del Libro' project, which aims to make culture accessible to all citizens and instill the habit of reading, especially among the youngest. "

Since April 2009, the municipality of Blanca has been integrated into the international network of places with the name of 'Villa del Libro', of which localities from 15 countries are part.

That same year, the cycle 'Rio de Letras' was launched, which, according to the general director, "allowed us to enjoy in the Region of Murcia the presence of outstanding authors such as Ana María Matute, Luis Alberto de Cuenca, Javier Cercas , César Antonio Molina, Sánchez-Dragó or Carmen Posadas, among others ".

After a few years without celebration, the City of White retakes this project in which some of the best national authors (poets, novelists, essayists or dramatists) participate in meetings with the public on a monthly basis, making their work and their latest work better known publications.

Guest authors

'Río de Letras' begins on April 19 (8:30 pm) at the Pedro Cano de Blanca Foundation with the Venezuelan writer Boris Izaguirre, who will present his latest novel, 'Tiempo de tormenta' (Planeta publishing house), an autobiographical work that narrates the relationship of a professional dancer with her son.

In it, the author recalls the days of school, love, a violation, silence, his first steps as a columnist or writer of soap operas, the leap to fame with 'Martian Chronicles', his recognition as a finalist for the Planeta Prize, Glamor, the abysses, again love and violence.

Izaguirre has been linked to journalism and literature for more than 20 years.

Author of 12 books, he has developed a successful career in Spain and Latin America.

'Villa Diamante' was a Planeta Award finalist in 2007 and among his works also highlights 'And suddenly it was yesterday', 'Two monsters together' and 'A garden to the north', which was among the best-selling in 2014. As a journalist, collaborates with publications such as 'Vanity Fair', 'El País', 'Hola', 'GQ' and 'Vogue', as well as the Onda Cero radio station.

Since 2015 he lives in Miami and is a Telemundo presenter in the United States.

On May 24 it will be the turn of the young Andalusian Sara Búho.

Graduated in Law and Master in Digital Marketing and Electronic Commerce, began in 2005 to share his poems in a blog and soon reached great notoriety, publishing his first book, 'Ataraxia del corazón', the following year.

In 2017 he published 'Y yo a ti' (Valparaíso Ediciones).

The novelist, essayist and poet Benjamin Prado will visit the Region on June 19 and on September 20 Jon Juaristi, also a poet, novelist and essayist, as well as former director of the National Library and the Cervantes Institute.

The winner of the last Planeta Award for 'The impossible fire', the journalist and writer Javier Sierra, will be the guest of October (day 18), and the cycle will end on November 22 at the hand of one of the most renowned Spanish poets, Luis García Montero, recognized with the National Prize for Literature and the National Critic.
