Thousands of pilgrims accompany San Roque to the Hermitage (06/04/2018)

No Blanqueño wanted to miss the Pilgrimage of Blanca that is celebrated today in honor of the patron San Roque.

Several thousand citizens have accompanied the Saint during the more than 5 kilometers of travel from the church square to the Hermitage of San Roque.

At 8 o'clock in the morning, the bell ringing and the sound of firecrackers and rockets announced to the town of Blanca the beginning of the traditional pilgrimage, which ran along the Calle Mayor

At 7 o'clock in the morning, the Uncle de la Pita will give a parade announces Barrio Nuevo to continue the march along the Carretera de la Estación until reaching 'El Puerto' and reach the Hermitage, where at 11:30 a Huertana mass was celebrated .

During the tour, there are traditional stops where the pilgrims who accompany the saint taste the traditional monas and share their lunch with the rest of the faithful.

Beans, cod, tortilla or fried rabbit with tomato are some of the foods that are tasted on this day that for the citizens of La Blanca, it is a day of brotherhood and coexistence in the Campo de San Roque.

Once there, as tradition dictates, the pilgrims go to the Shrine of the saint to bless the thyme branches that are passed through the yagas.

After this act of consecration, the saint will undertake at around 5 in the afternoon the way back to the Church of St. John the Evangelist, in a procession that begins at 7 pm from the known as the tip of the town.
