The Ministry of the Presidency and Development will tender before the summer the reinforcement of the road surface RM-553, which connects the urban center of Blanca with the A-30 highway (Cartagena-Albacete), with the aim of addressing the complete repair of this way.
The councilor Pedro Rivera today advanced to the mayor of the town, Esther Hortelano, that the improvement works of this regional route "will begin after the summer so that the road is reformed at the end of this year or, at most, early next year. "
Pedro Rivera explained that "the action will significantly improve the circulation of this road that accumulates a very high traffic, with an average of 1.3 million trips per year, for being the main access to the town from the highway and also provides coverage and access to the Ricote Valley ".
The works will consist of the reinforcement of 5.5 kilometers of surface, and will include the total renovation of the horizontal signaling and the installation of 52 vertical reflective signs (20 triangular, 18 circular and 14 square) and will involve a regional investment of 347,000 euros.
This conservation action aims to improve the characteristics of the tread layer and thus increase the stability of the road, which is currently cracked due to deformations and irregularities located along the route of the RM-553 by the passage of the time and also, as it happens in other occasions, for later works related to services.
"The safety of pedestrians will be strengthened, since we have included in the project the construction of up to 10 steps of raised pedestrians, in order to better adapt to the needs of traffic and pedestrians," said the counselor.
Pedro Rivera recalled that at the beginning of the year the repair of subsidence and improvement of drainage on the RM-553 highway was completed, works valued at more than 109,000 euros and that resolved the gap that had hitherto hindered driving, especially heavy vehicles. .
New bridge over the river Segura
Also, the owner of Development announced to the mayor of Blanca that his department is going to update the project of construction of a new bridge on the river Segura, which was drafted in 2009, in order to analyze the possible alternatives to improve communications between the two banks of the municipality, separated by the river, and also between the urban core of Blanca and the Ricote Valley.
In this way, the General Directorate of Roads will adapt the project to the existing regulations and adapt it to the urban planning of Blanca.
The counselor pointed out that it is necessary to improve the road communication of the locality because with the current infrastructure it is "insufficient", since the existing bridge only allows the circulation in only one direction, adding that "with this action a historical demand of the municipality".
This infrastructure is of regional interest because it not only serves the residents of Blanca, but all the inhabitants of the Ricote Valley, as it connects the Avenida del Río Segura de Blanca with the regional highway RM-520, which connects with the Valle of Ricote and also with the RM-B17 that extends until Abarán.
