The Ministry of Water subsidizes with more than 24,500 euros actions to improve the river Segura for the development of different recreational activities
The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the mayor of Blanca, Ester Hortelano inaugurated this morning the works of the purification station of the municipality with which the quality of treated water is improved.
The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, through the Sanitation and Purification Entity of the Region of Murcia (Esamur) has completed the works of the purification station of the municipality of Blanca, with which the quality of the treated water, while increasing energy efficiency to reduce costs in the treatment process.
Councilor Francisco Jódar, who inaugurated the facilities today, together with the mayor of Blanca, Esther Hortelano, said that "the regional government's goal is to improve all treatment plants in the Region of Murcia, since by making them more efficient we are contributing to protect the environment and fight against climate change ".
The WWTP of Blanca purifies annually a volume that in 2016 reached 262,123 cubic meters, has an irrigation concession by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS), as well as the reuse of purified water in agriculture in favor of Irrigators Community Zone II Vega Alta y Media, which covers a concession area of ​​about 3,000 hectares.
The volume for reuse is 450,000 cubic meters of water per year.
The installation of Blanca was built in 2001, and a year later it was extended to incorporate the tertiary treatment system, whose investment was 1,456,000 euros.
With the latest improvements, last year it reached a very good effluent quality, in addition to optimizing electricity consumption, which was 6 percent lower than in 2015.
Ramses Project
The actions to improve the Blanca treatment plant, with a total investment of 1,150,000 euros, are part of the Ramses project (it is included in the LIFE + call).
The project will be developed over the next three years.
With this investment, other environmental objectives are achieved such as improving the stability of the biological process, valorization of the biogas obtained in the purification process;
reduction of the volume of reactor in new construction facilities and reduction of the volume of sludge generated in the purification process, allowing also its valorization in agriculture as an organic amendment.
The Community, through Esamur, currently participates in a total of six LIFE + programs, "which highlights the commitment to innovation and the development of new technologies applied to the treatment," said the counselor.
Agreement with the City Council
During his visit to Blanca, the owner of Agua also learned about the maintenance and repair works that have been carried out in the surroundings of the Segura River and that serve the multitude of activities that take place on the banks and beaches of the riverbed.
The actions financed by the Community have focused on the repair of furniture and fishing platforms and access to the river for recreational and nautical activities that take place in the municipality, cleaning and recovery of spaces invaded by the massive growth of the cane fields that grow on the riverbank and tree planting of species compatible with the climate and the environment.
These actions are framed in the collaboration agreement signed between the Ministry and the City of White, which collected a grant of 24,585 euros.
